I think I've decided on Pinkie's mane and tail pattern. I had to lengthen it a bit from my last pinkie but it turned out well, I think. Pinkie takes a lot of stuffing!!
Well there's lots of artists out there right now who do commissions, you could try to get a slot for a full sized slot, several of them also make beanies or minis, which are less expensive, and hasbro even makes official plushies now! There's lots of options for plush right now.
Well I'm sure the creators/designers/pattern makers of those plushies had to concentrate on ease of mass-production, which was probably the most difficult thing to figure out for the ponies, since the patterns are not simple. Most of say, pinkie pie's mane attachment is hand sewing, which is not conducive to a quick-moving assembly line-type plush production. I do think the gusset down the middle of the face could have benefited from being thinner though!
Just curious, do you use a stabilizer over top of the minky when doing those decorative stitches/lines on the mane and tail? Because whenever I try and do them (without stabilizer or anything), little bits of minky stick up in between the stitches and make it look messy. I'd love to hear how you make them look so perfect!
I don't! Instead of trying to guess on the stitches or stitching in the wrong direction, I use a ball-point pen and draw the lines on the back of my minky. (Nothing special, just an ordinary office bic-type cheap pen, it doesn't show through, and it writes on the back of minky well.) Then, I just make sure the knap is facing the toward me, with the fabric upside-down and I trace the lines with the needle. Nothing more to it than that.
It's no problem! If there's any other questions you stumble upon in the future (I see you're new to plush making, and I remember when I first started out, I didn't feel like I could ask anyone on DA) feel free to send me a note, I'll try my best to answer!
this is what I hope to buy some day!
I'm very glad you like my Pinkie Pie.
