Applejack 2 by eebharas Applejack 2 by eebharas
I'm really happy with how she came out! I used a type of embroidery thread on her eyes that has multiple colors to make it look more like light reflecting in the irises. I really like how that looks.

I can't take most of the credit for the hat, that goes to my mom! She designed it, ironed on and cut out the stiff batting, and even did some of the sewing. I just did a little of it. Hats are beyond me!

More photos of Applejack are here: [link]

Let me know what you think!:)

I have an embroidery machine. :) I designed the eyes and freehanded the cutie mark in Adobe illustrator, then I digitized them into embroidery files.

Originally I hand embroidered them. You just trace the eye onto the wrong side of the fabric and fill each area with stitches in the right colors!:)

Well I use my own pattern, and it actually looks nothing like that, but it does look like a pretty good tutorial for using the pattern shown. However, I would suggest pinning, not tacking your fabric.

Well I bought it at minky delight, where it's called "saffron yellow" but since they're constantly out of stock, I bought some mango from fabric depot about a week ago and it came in today. It's the exact same color. :)

I'm bidding on her now, I do hope I win, but I have to beat this person who is also bidding for her D8 do you take commissions as of yet? And how much does Minky cost anyway?
Reply
:iconeebharas:
eebharas Featured By Owner Apr 29, 2012  Student Artisan Crafter
Well it can cost anywhere from 13-17 per yard plus shipping. Most places require you buy full yards, so it kinda depends whether or not you're buying it at the time you're making it, or if you already have it, I suppose. And no I don't take commissions right now. However, I am having a drawing for a free fleece plushie for my watchers pretty soon. :)

do you plan on taking commissions in the future? I would definitely pay for one of these! Lost the bid, but I am in the drawing so we shall see ^^.

I don't really plan on it, but that doesn't mean I won't. Once I'm completely happy with my basic pony pattern and I have mane and tail patterns for all the mane 6 I might.

Wow absolutely amazing!--as usual. I can't get over how awesome your plushies are! :XD: How did you get into doing plushies, anyway? And was getting the patterns a trial-and-error sort of thing?

Well I did my first little feltie owl because I had seen some other felties while I was looking through a couple etsy shops. Then, while I was on Deviantart, I saw the pony plushies. My older brother, my younger brother, and I are all fans of the show so I decided to make one for my older brother. I also made one for my younger brother, but then I realized he would appreciate computer speakers more, so I sold his, and used the money to buy him the speakers. From then on, I just kept making them. :)

Yeah, the patterns are almost entirely trial and error. Now that I've been doing it for a few months, I can see how the patterns will go together better, but you never know quite how they will turn out until you put them together.

And I'm really glad you like my plushies!:D

Wow that's such a cool story! I'm sort of glad to hear that because I'm thinking about trying to make some plushies. ^^; I'm going to start with cheaper material though until I figure out how to do things. Thank you for answering me, I really appreciate it. =D
